Scholars debate the Lelylijn
In a series of youth debates, schoolchildren between the ages of 12 and 18 from Fryslân and Groningen made their voices heard on Lelylijn. This took place during the National Youth Debate of the National Youth Council ( NJR). We betrekken jongeren actief bij de plannen voor de Lelylijn, want zij zijn de toekomstige gebruikers.
Youth debate in Fryslân
In Fryslân, young people entered into a debate with state members of the Province of Fryslân. They argued for a solid connection to local towns such as Sneek and Lemmer, stressed the importance of cooperation with citizens and asked for good connections to existing bus transport. The young people also felt it was important to pay attention to the environment and nature.
Youth Debate in Groningen
Groningen schoolchildren shared their ideas and concerns in a discussion with the members of the provincial executive. Sustainability is high on the agenda as far as they are concerned: they think Lelylijn should run on green energy. They also emphasized cooperation between provinces, municipalities and public transport companies, the potential for economic growth through better accessibility, and the preservation of nature. They feel that costs can be shared between Groningen Province, Fryslân Province, Flevoland Province, the Lower House and European Union
