Significantly reduced travel time with De Lelylijn
If the Lelylijn is built, travel time between the Randstad and the northern Netherlands will be significantly reduced. The Lelylijn project team is investigating three alternatives, among others. According to initial calculations, the bundling alternative along the A6/A7/A32 will yield the greatest travel time gains. With the Lelylijn, residents can travel to Amsterdam or Leeuwarden/Groningen and vice versa in about 1 hour and 15 minutes, 45 minutes faster than now.
Driving times, transportation values and costs
The MIRT study of the Lelylijn alternatives is in full swing.
The Lelylijn project team is investigating three alternatives/tracks: a northern alternative via the Afsluitdijk, a central alternative bundled along the A6/A7/A32 and a southern alternative via Emmeloord -Assen.
These alternatives are the basis for the current study and illustrate the scope of the solutions.
Driving times, transport values and costs are provided.
These alternatives still contain several variations.
Especially at complex points Heerenveen and Groningen, many different solutions are still on the table.
And looking broadly, at multiple routes/alternatives, is an important requirement in an MIRT study.
The goal is to get a sense of the added value, opportunities and challenges of this new rail link.
The MIRT study is the first phase of the development of a new rail link.
If it is decided in November 2024 that the Lelylijn can move to the next phase; then the Exploratory Phase will start and even more detailed consideration will be given to solution directions of/for the Lelylijn.
The figure below shows the three basic alternatives as developed in cooperation with the state and regional governments.
The 3 basic alternatives (with variations) for calculating travel times, transport value and costs
Continued
The study of the Lelylijn alternatives will be completed in the summer of 2024 so that the necessary information will be available in the fall to prepare for the MIRT Administrative Consultation in November 2024.
